On June 15, the Energy Facility Contractors Group (EFCOG) formally recognized a group of five Fermilab employees for outstanding work in planning the 11th DOE Laser Safety Officer Workshop in September 2016, hosted at Fermilab. The Workshop Organizing Committee are David Baird, Joy Pomillo, Matthew Quinn, Melody Saperston and Jamie Santucci — have earned the EFCOG Teamwork Award.

The EFCOG Board awards the Teamwork Award “for exceptional performance by a group of individuals who were instrumental in addressing a key EFCOG issue.” The group did outstanding work in organizing the workshop, which promoted practical laser safety management to 150 people from DOE, the Department of Defense, NASA, academia, industry and medicine. Workshop speakers also presented on the innovative scientific use of lasers in particle physics research at Fermilab. The workshop included an exam for those applying to become certified laser safety officers, as well as several meetings for national-consensus laser standard working groups.

EFCOG comprises DOE laboratories and their contractors and has about 100 institutional members. Its purpose is to enable complexwide information sharing to ensure excellence in DOE operations.

Congratulations to the EFCOG Laser Safety Officer Workshop Organizing Committee members on their excellent work.
