Fermilab receives TechConnect Innovation Award for prototype SRF accelerator

TC_NationalInnovationAwardTechConnect has recognized Fermilab with an Innovation Award for the development of a prototype compact SRF accelerator that can be used for industrial applications. Fermilab’s submission placed in the top 15 percent of all submitted technologies as ranked by the TechConnect Corporate and Investment Partner Committee. The lab will be recognized at the TechConnect National Innovation Summit in Washington, D.C., in May.

Fermilab’s compact SRF accelerator, which is in the prototype stage, is a new class of compact, robust, high-power, energy-efficient accelerator that will enable new industrial, scientific and security applications. SRF cavities allow linear accelerators less than 1.5 meters in length to create electron beams with an energy beyond 10 MeV and with average beam powers in the tens of kilowatts.
