Fermilab’s engineering community (including engineering associates and engineering physicists) is spread throughout the lab and makes up a large part of the Fermilab team. We have identified a need for a position that looks across the laboratory to engage on a wide range of issues affecting the engineering community and the lab, including:
- Recruiting, development, diversity and overall health of Fermilab’s engineering community
- Consistent engineering processes in areas such as ESH&Q, our Contractor Assurance System (CAS) and other enterprise management systems
- Serving as an interface point with other labs on general engineering issues
Effective April 26, 2016, Chris Mossey, deputy director for the LBNF Project and an electrical engineer by training, is chief engineer for Fermilab for an initial two-year appointment. In this role he will also report programmatically to the Fermilab lab director. We expect this position to rotate and may reside for administrative purposes in other line management organizations within the lab.
