A bison rescue story: photos

On July 6, a two-day-old bison somehow lost its way in the Fermilab bison pasture. Fortunately, Fermilab herdsman Cleo Garcia was here to rescue it.

On that hot day, Roads and Grounds member Jeanette Olah received a report from Groundskeeper Sheryl Westwood of a baby bison unusually far removed from its herd. It was panting and looked distressed. Olah passed the news to Garcia, who went out to investigate. The bison had become stuck between two fences, but at least managed to find a shady spot in those close quarters. Garcia picked up the newborn, carried it into his truck and returned it to his mother. Later the mother bison was seen nursing her baby.
