How do I order computers?

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

The process for ordering computers and peripherals has been made easier. The new Technology Store will be fully live on Oct. 19.

WHAT IS THE IMPACT TO YOU?

You can order standard computers and standard peripherals (those that are commonly used at the lab) from the Fermilab eMarketplace. Packages containing a complete set, including a standard computer and its associated accessories, have been created to facilitate purchasing.

The ordering process for custom computers, custom computer accessories and all software will also improve. These items will still be available through ServiceNow as they are today. However, the ServiceNow forms will have a new look and will be streamlined to make ordering and delivery quicker and easier for the requester.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

Order a standard computer or standard peripherals from the Fermilab eMarketplace:

  • The standard computer packages for Windows, Mac and Linux are displayed at the bottom of the page, once a licensed user logs in to the eMarketplace.
  • Licensed individuals, called eLicense Holders, must place the order on your behalf. Consult this list of eLicense Holders within your organization.

Order a custom computer or custom peripheral (one that is not available from the eMarketplace), using ServiceNow:

  • Log in with your Services account.
  • Click the link for the “Service Request Catalog.
  • Under the category, “Desktops, Laptops, & Workstations,” click “Order New Computer, Monitor, Peripherals” link.
  • Click “Order Custom (uncommon) computer hardware and peripherals here.”

Order software using ServiceNow:

  • Log in with your Services account.
  • Click the link for the “Service Request Catalog.
  • Under the category, “Desktops, Laptops, & Workstations,” click “Request Software or License.”

If you have questions about your order or using eMarketplace or ServiceNow, contact the Service Desk via the website, http://servicedesk.fnal.gov, or by calling x2345.
