Fermilab recently recognized a group of dedicated employees for their outstanding contributions with Exceptional Performance Recognition Awards. The employees were nominated by their divisions and sections for the awards. Fermilab Director Nigel Lockyer handed out the awards at a reception on Sept. 12.
Accelerator Division
Carol Johnstone
Carol Johnstone is awarded an Exceptional Performance Recognition Award in recognition of her outstanding leadership and team effort to successfully decommission and dismantle the old beamline enclosures and salvage valuable equipment. This effort reduced the maintenance load for FESS and exemplified the goal of “one lab.”
Benjamin Hansen
Benjamin Hansen is awarded an Exceptional Performance Recognition Award fin recognition of his outstanding work on the CMTS-1 cryogenic system construction and commissioning. This effort involved installing the valve box and transfer line, making the connection to the test stand, and performing a commissioning run for the 2K cryoplant, all in preparation for the first CM test.
Andrew Dalesandro
Andrew Dalesandro is awarded an Exceptional Performance Recognition Award in recognition of his outstanding work on the LCLS-II end cap procurements. This effort involved developing requirements and specifications, performing technical evaluations, and managing the design and build contracts.

Thomas Diehl is awarded an Exceptional Performance Recognition Award as operations scientist for the Dark Energy Survey. He has displayed outstanding leadership of DES operations through its first three years of successful data taking, laying the foundation for cutting-edge dark energy science.

James Hoff is awarded an Exceptional Performance Recognition Award in recognition for pioneering original development of vertically integrated pattern recognition associative memories in applications to tracking and triggering and its implementation in 3-D.
Hogan Nguyen
Hogan Nguyen is awarded an Exceptional Performance Recognition Award in recognition of his exemplary leadership as the L2 manager for the Muon g-2 storage ring and its associated subsystems. Under his guidance and through his direct contributions to the effort, the storage ring was safely transported, reassembled, cooled and powered for the first time in 15 years

Robert Sanders is awarded an Exceptional Performance Recognition Award in recognition of his major contributions to the Muon g-2 storage ring and Mu2e solenoid test stand cryogenics. He played a key role in the design, engineering assessments, procedures and successful commissioning of the Muon g-2 magnet and to the construction of the HAB cryogenic test facility.

Jeff Berryhill is awarded an Exceptional Performance Recognition Award for contributions to the successful installation, commissioning and operation of the Stage 1 upgrade of the CMS Level 1 trigger, including firmware development and commissioning at CERN.

Miao Yu is awarded an Exceptional Performance Recognition Award in recognition of his major role in the design and construction of the coils for LARP model magnets MQXFSM1 and MQXFS1, which was the first case where we had a successful first test of a newly designed superconducting coil in a magnet.

Matthew Toups
Matthew Toups is awarded an Exceptional Performance Recognition Award for his outstanding efforts in recognition of his leadership and coordination of the MicroBooNE physics analyses teams that produced the first results to come out of the MicroBooNE experiment after the first eight months of data taking. His organization of this effort led to the production of 14 public notes and multiple results that were shown for the first time at summer conferences.
Alexander Himmel
Alexander Himmel is awarded an Exceptional Performance Recognition Award in recognition of the leadership he provided as NOvA offline coordinator, which was instrumental in the collaboration’s successful production of new physics results in time for Neutrino 2016. The NOvA results have been described as the highlights of the Neutrino 2016 conference.
Anne Schukraft
Anne Schukraft is awarded an Exceptional Performance Recognition Award in recognition of her exemplary leadership for driving the first physics to come out of the MicroBooNE experiment, specifically the identification of first neutrinos in the MicroBooNE detector and leadership of the team that made the first measurement of neutrino charged current interactions in the MicroBooNE experiment. These achievements have demonstrated the successful start of MicroBooNE data-taking.
