Families visit bison

On May 3, families from the lab Playgroup took a field trip to the bison farm to ask Fermilab herdsman Cleo Garcia about the magnificent animals.

Sample questions included, “Why does the mommy bison snuggle with the babies?” and “What do you feed them?” Another child asked where baby bison came from, and we took it as our cue to end the Q&A, thank Cleo for his time, and head to Kuhn Barn for our scheduled potluck.

Parents and kids alike had a great time and were excited to see the bison up close. In fact, in preparation for the visit, the play group made bison masks to get everyone fired up about meeting some members of the national mammal.

The Playgroup meets every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Kuhn Barn and is open to everyone. We look forward to more exciting activities this summer. We’re joining in a fishing derby in June, planting a children’s garden in the Village and swimming in the pool!
