Jose spent most of his career working with the lab’s spare-parts inventory, processing inventory transactions and overseeing the annual blind audit. For the past several years he also served as the lab’s cashier, in addition to his duties as inventory accountant. He was dependable and conscientious, going about his business in a calm, efficient manner.
Jose was the department’s head safety warden. He excelled in this area, training visitors and new employees, monitoring the emergency warning system, and giving table-top briefings to his colleagues in the department.
Jose really cared for the people he worked with and for Fermilab. He brought a sense of family to the department. He was known for being personable and friendly. Due to his years of service, he had many friends throughout the lab and would occasionally share stories of the “good old days.”
Jose loved his family. He was proud of his three children and his wife Reyna, who is also a valuable Accounting Department employee. Working with one’s spouse in the same department can be difficult, but not for Jose and Reyna. Their marriage was a model of love, friendship and mutual respect.
His passing is a great loss to the department and the laboratory.
