Tips for International Taxpayers – Part 2

Are you an international employee or visitor? If so, you may be mystified by the US tax laws (don’t worry, so are we!). The Visa Office cannot provide tax advice, but we do want to help you navigate the US tax system. This is Part 2 of our four part series on Tips for International Taxpayer (Part 1 is now on our website).

Today, we wanted to share with you two services offered by the IRS free of charge. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax preparation for people making under $54,000 per year. There are several locations within 10 miles of Fermilab providing this free service and they operate on a first-come first-serve basis, so plan accordingly and set aside a few hours.

Another free IRS tool is the Interactive Tax Assistant, which covers many common questions.

We hope this information is helpful to you and we are always available in person (WH15W) or via email should you need help searching for additional resources.
