Vladimir Shiltsev awarded APS Outstanding Referee

Vladimir Shiltsev received the APS Outstanding Referee Award, which comes with a certificate and lapel pin.

Vladimir Shiltsev, head of the Fermilab Accelerator Physics Center, has received the American Physical Society Outstanding Referee award.

He follows Fermilab scientists William Bardeen, Tanaji Sen, Valery Lebedev and Eliana Gianfelice-Wendt, who received similar recognition from the APS over the past decade.

For many years, Shiltsev was on the Editorial Board of the APS Physical Reviews – Accelerators and Beams journal. He is currently chair of the APS Division of Physics of Beams and serves as editor of the JINST and the Springer book series Particle Acceleration and Detection.

The Outstanding Referee program was instituted in 2008 to recognize scientists who have been exceptionally helpful in assessing manuscripts for publication in the APS journals. By means of the program, APS expresses its appreciation to all referees, whose efforts in peer review not only keep the standards of the journals at a high level, but in many cases also help authors to improve the quality and readability of their articles – even those that are not published by APS.

The highly selective Outstanding Referee program annually recognizes about 150 of the roughly 60,000 currently active referees. Like fellowship in APS, this is a lifetime award. This year, 147 outstanding referees were selected.
