New FermiWorks login option to remember devices enabled Saturday, April 27

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

Computing will be enabling a new security feature in FermiWorks that will give you the option to remember trusted devices when you log in. This security feature will make it easier to detect unusual login behavior as you will receive a notification if your account is accessed from an unknown device.

Examples of trusted devices may include your personal laptop, Fermilab computer and personal cell phone. Examples of devices that should not be trusted include kiosks and other shared public computers.

WHEN WILL THIS OCCUR?

You will see the new Remember Device prompt when you log in to FermiWorks starting on Saturday, April 27.

WHAT IS THE IMPACT TO YOU?

  • When you log in to FermiWorks, you will be prompted to “Remember this device.” If you are using a trusted device, select the check box and click Submit. Once you select “Remember this device,” you won’t see the prompt again for that device. If you don’t want FermiWorks to remember your device, click Skip.
  • FermiWorks will send you email notifications for logins from unknown devices. This functionality will allow you and FermiWorks administrators to easily identify unusual login behavior.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

If you would like FermiWorks to remember the trusted device you are logging in from, select that option when prompted. If you are not logging in from a trusted device, do not select anything and click Skip to log in.
