Reminder: Windows 7 computers will be blocked starting Jan. 14, 2020

Dear Windows users,

WHAT ARE WE DOING?
This is a reminder that Microsoft will discontinue Windows 7 support on Jan. 14, 2020. After that date, any Windows 7 computers will be blocked from accessing the Fermilab network.

We have upgraded majority of the Windows 7 computers to Windows 10. Over the last few weeks, we have also sent direct communications to the custodians of remaining Windows 7 computers to ask them to either upgrade/excess their computer or submit a variance request, as described below.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
If your computer is still running Windows 7, you must do one of the following immediately if you have not already done so. If you don’t take action now, your computer is at risk of being blocked from accessing the Fermilab network starting Jan. 14, 2020.
• Option 1: Submit a Service Desk ticket to request an upgrade to Windows 10.
• Option 2: Submit a Service Desk ticket to excess that PC.
• Option 3: If you must remain on Windows 7, you must fill out the ServiceNow form, “Unsupported Operating System Variance Request”, at https://fermi.service-now.com/com.glideapp.servicecatalog_cat_item_view.do?v=1&sysparm_id=5df72d9315e99540f9e6045d598b54bb for each PC. But please note that the PC will not have Internet access.
