Fermilab retiree Jerry Peterson, 80, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, at his home in Geneva, Illinois, after an 11-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Jerry was born in Batavia on April 23, 1939, the son of Ida and LaVerne Peterson. He joined Fermilab Technical Services in 1969 as an instrumental machinist. He retired from his position as assistant machine shop superintendent in the Technical Support Division in December 2002.
In his retirement he enjoyed train travel, educational trips, exploring historical sites around the U.S., and spending winters in Florida. He spent countless hours in his shop at home on projects of his own or making parts for others. He is survived by his wife Lauren Curry, his two children, Neal Peterson and Wendy (Trini) Alexander, two grandchildren, two sisters, a brother and many nieces and nephews.
