IMAP email to be disabled March 24 (off site) and April 15 (on site)

Microsoft will deprecate the use of IMAP (used by certain email applications such as Thunderbird) soon — likely, around October 2020. Because the IMAP protocol does not work with multifactor authentication (MFA), Fermilab will disable the use of IMAP offsite or via VPN on March 24, 2020 and onsite beginning Apr. 15, 2020.

WHAT IS THE IMPACT TO YOU?

If you have configured your email client to use IMAP, or if you use an email client that only uses IMAP such as Thunderbird, you must take the action below to continue to access your Fermilab email whether offsite or onsite.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

You must either switch to a new tool that uses Exchange, such as Webmail/Outlook Web Application (OWA) at https://email.fnal.gov, or reconfigure your email client to use Exchange. Instructions for various devices are available in the following knowledge article: https://fermi.service-now.com/wp?id=kb_article&sys_id=KB0013330

Visit the MFA at Fermilab website at https://mfa.fnal.gov (must be onsite or use VPN) for frequently asked questions.
