Expanded Blue Cross Blue Shield telehealth program and coverage

Blue Cross Blue Shield has expanded its telehealth program in Illinois. If you are covered by any of the Fermilab medical plans, you may now seek telephone and/or video appointments with many network providers for medical care, including behavior health care. This expanded access to virtual health care is provided to reduce your risk of exposure to COVID-19 or other viruses by avoiding in-person visits to medical offices.

You may access covered telehealth services by contacting your healthcare provider or medical group directly to learn if virtual appointments are available and to schedule one. If you need healthcare and do not already have a relationship with a healthcare provider, you may search for one using Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois’ online provider directory at bcbsil.com or by calling the Member Services phone number printed on the back of your Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois ID card.

Also, during the month of April, Fermilab has suspended employee cost sharing for members who use covered telehealth services in each of our three medical plans. Between April 1 and April 30, you won’t pay copayments, deductibles or coinsurance on covered in-network telehealth services. As the COVID-19 situation evolves, this temporary suspension of employee cost sharing for telehealth will be evaluated to determine if it should be extended. As information is available, we will share it with you.

For employees enrolled in Fermilab’s PPO and HDHP/HSA plans, the MDLive (Services login required) program is also available for telehealth. Information about accessing the MDLive program and health benefits is available on the WDRS Benefits website (Services login required).
