Employees are Fermilab’s most important asset. WDRS strives to offer you and your family competitive, comprehensive and diverse benefits as part of your total compensation package. In order to do so, we must periodically analyze our current benefits and evaluate usage, coverage, effectiveness, cost and competitive trends in benefit programs. All of these elements, along with feedback from employees and managers, are critical components necessary to determine the organization’s stance on benefit offerings.
Over the past year, a cross-functional Operational Excellence Improvement team was tasked with evaluating the current leave-of-absence process for FMLA leave, sick time, vacation donation and parental leave. The team reviewed the components of our leave-of-absence program with the following points in mind:
- Attract and retain the talented workforce we need to pursue in order to achieve our science mission by offering competitive and comprehensive benefits.
- Provide income protection for employees when they have a serious health condition and are not able to work. The serious health condition could be either short- or long-term.
- Improve health and welfare of current and future employees.
- Create consistent policies and procedures that are clear and understandable for employees and managers.
The Operational Excellence team would like your input on potential improvements to the current policies. A link to the survey was emailed to all employees via the division admins on July 28. You can also access the survey link from the Benefits home page on the right hand side under Benefits Updates. If you haven’t done so already, please complete the survey to help the team understand your perspective and needs during a leave of absence. The last day to complete the survey is Tuesday, Aug. 11.
