Fermilab Virtual Family Open House 2021

The Family Open House is one of Fermilab’s most popular events. It brings almost 4,000 guests each year to the lab to experience the excitement of Fermilab science, and each year many members of the Fermilab community contribute in a wide variety of ways to make it special.

The annual Fermilab Family Open House will have a different look in 2021. The Office of Education and Public Engagement is planning a multi-day virtual event, starting on Wednesday, February 10, and concluding on Sunday, February 14. The event will include tours, interactive activities that can be done at home, talks, an online scavenger hunt, and live-streamed demo shows. With the new virtual format, we will have the opportunity to engage audiences with the excitement of Fermilab science—locally, nationally and internationally—in the comfort of their homes.

We are looking for Fermilab employees and users with creative ideas to help us pull off the multi-day event. This includes:

  1. Demos that can be done live or pre-recorded
  2. Meeting with students in their classrooms via Zoom or Google
  3. Being a part of our online story walk, reading STEM books to kids
  4. Submitting art to “Be a part of pARTicles”
  5. Giving virtual tours
  6. We are also open to new ideas!

We will host a Zoom brown bag lunch discussion on Tuesday, December 1, at noon to hear your ideas and share ours. Please complete this form indicating your area of interest, and thank you for helping to support Fermilab’s first virtual Family Open House.
