The fruits are not generally eaten, and human use is limited to the tree’s wood, for instance in bow making (bois d’arc). These trees were imported in Europe in the early 18th century and become a source of different legends, ergo their European names: “pomme d’Adam”, “pomo d’Adamo”, “nuez de Adán.” Read more about these and other fruit trees on the Fermilab site.
