In memoriam: John Slowiak

John Slowiak

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of retired Captain John Slowiak of the Fermilab Fire Department. Captain Slowiak died the morning of Jan. 18. He served the Fermilab Department and the Fermilab community selflessly for 31 years, from 1971-2002. He was one of the nine original full-time firefighters for the laboratory. The first members were instrumental in building this organization into what it is today. After his retirement, John, his wife Candy and both of his sons moved their families to Las Vegas, Nevada.

The family is planning a memorial service in the spring. For more information on the service or on how to contact John’s family, please email Battalion Chief Christopher Williams at williamsc@fnal.gov or Chief Chuck Kuhn at kuhn@fnal.gov.

Christopher Williams is the Fermilab Fire Department battalion chief.
