After 20 years at the lab, Librarian Sandra Lee is retiring on April 30.
Lee started working at the lab in Information Services (now part of Core Computing Division) in 2001, “so long ago that we had several books on preventing the feared Y2K computing crash,” she said. She has seen many changes as the library has moved from mostly print to mostly digital, but the mission is unchanged: to give our customers the right item at the right time in the right format. “Also unchanged,” she said, “has been my privilege of serving the nicest customers of any library I know.”
“I am happy to have been part of the Information Resources Department, and thank everyone for their kindness, friendship and help.” Lee is grateful to have been part of Fermilab’s “unique and awesome” mission, and to have worked at the beautiful Fermilab site, she said, “complete with strolling sandhill cranes and fluffy baby bison, where some Fermilab employees are also citizen scientists on their own time, developing and contributing their expertise on plants, butterflies, birds, dragonflies, and more.”
In her retirement, Sandra plans to garden, visit local botanic gardens and other libraries and read.
