Remembrance ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 11, 8:55 a.m.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the tragic terrorist attacks that occurred on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001. Every year following the attacks, the Fermilab Fire Department has conducted an annual private ceremony on Sept. 11 at 8:59 a.m. Central time to mark the time when the South Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed.

In September 2014, the Fire Department requested that the small ceremony be held near Wilson Hall, in front of the United States Flag located by Swan Lake. Word spread quickly about this memorial, and attendance has grown dramatically each year.

The members of the Fermilab Fire Department would like to invite Fermilab employees and users, whether on site or working from home, to the ceremony to remember those who lost their lives that day.

Please join us on Saturday, Sept. 11, known as Patriot Day, at 8:55 a.m. as we pay our respects and remember all those that have perished in result of this tragic event. You may attend by meeting on the front apron of the laboratory fire house (while practicing social distancing) or virtually through Zoom.

If you’d like to join virtually, email Chuck Kuhn at kuhn@fnal.gov for Zoom information for the event.
