macOS update notification software Nudge will be installed Wednesday, Feb. 9

Dear Mac users,

This message only pertains to Mac users who use a Fermilab-owned centrally managed Mac running macOS Big Sur or Monterey.

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

Computing will be installing a macOS update notification software called Nudge on Fermilab-owned centrally managed Macs running macOS Big Sur or Monterey.

WHEN WILL THIS OCCUR?

Wednesday, Feb. 9; starting at 7 a.m. Central Time

WHAT IS THE IMPACT TO YOU?

  • The Nudge installation will occur automatically in the background and will not require a reboot.
  • After Nudge has been installed, a notification window will pop up on your screen whenever a macOS update is required for your Mac. The notification will display the required new macOS version, your current macOS version, and the number of remaining days until the update deadline.
  • You can start the macOS update by clicking the “Update Device” button in the notification window. This will launch “Software Update” in “System Preferences”, and you can proceed from there.
  • Deferrals are allowed until the update deadline, at which point the notification window will appear in front of all your open applications and you will not be able to close it to defer the update any further.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

You don’t need to take any action. This message is for your information only.
