OneDrive data location change for Macs running Monterey 12.1 or later

Dear Mac users,

This message only pertains to users who use a Mac running macOS Monterey.

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

We want to inform you that after you have upgraded your Mac to macOS Monterey 12.1 or later, OneDrive for Mac will automatically migrate files kept in OneDrive from being locally stored to being stored in the cloud. This will not result in any data loss; however, users will not be able to access these files without an internet connection. If you want to access some of these files offline, follow the steps below.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

If you have upgraded to macOS Monterey 12.1 or later and would like to ensure that certain files in your OneDrive remain accessible offline, do the following:

  1. Navigate to your OneDrive folder in the Finder.
  2. Right-click/Secondary-click on any files or folders you would like to make available offline and select “Always Keep on This Device” (Note that making this change on a folder will affect all files within that folder.).
  3. After a file or folder has been set to be “Always Keep on This Device”, you will see a grey circle with a check box in it for that item in the Finder.
