The COVID-19 Community Level in DuPage County has increased from Medium to High. Based on the COVID Safety & Reentry Plan, additional safety requirements must be followed to access the Batavia site beginning May 28, 2022.
Employees
- Face coverings must be worn indoors while on site, regardless of vaccination status.
- Fermilab employees who are not fully vaccinated or undeclared and who work on the Batavia site must continue to be tested for COVID-19 at least once per week to gain site access. Fully vaccinated means two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

- Testing will continue to be every Tuesday and Thursday in the Fermilab Occupational Medical Office (FOMO) (WH-GF) by appointment only. A link to schedule appointments can be found here (Services login required).
- Tests taken at home cannot be used to gain site access.
- Tests taken off site must be proctored and are required at least one per week. If you test off site, submit your negative results to the portal (Services login required) to gain site access.
- Plan ahead to ensure you have been tested once each week to ensure site access.
Users and affiliates

Subcontractors
- Face coverings must be worn indoors while on site, regardless of vaccination status.
- Subcontractors working on site in Batavia are required to submit attestation of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within the prior seven days to gain site access.
Business visitors
- Face coverings must be worn indoors while on site, regardless of vaccination status.
- Unbadged business visitors to the Batavia site are required to submit attestation of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within the prior 72 hours to gain site access.
Attendees of in-person meetings, conferences or events
- Face coverings must be worn indoors while on site, regardless of vaccination status.
- Attendees at meetings, events and conferences – regardless of event size – who are not fully vaccinated or who decline to provide their vaccination information must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test within the prior 72 hours when Community Levels are Medium or High.
- When Community Levels are High, approval from the Secretary of Energy, in consultation with the DOE COVID-19 Coordination Team through the Fermi Site Office, is required for an in-person meeting, conference or event that will be attended by more than 50 participants.
General public
- Public visitors must wear face coverings while indoors on site regardless of vaccination status.
- Public visitors (age 12 and above) seeking to enter Lederman Science Center or Wilson Hall will require attestation of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within the prior 72 hours when Community Levels are Medium or High.
South Dakota site
Presently, the COVID-19 Community Levels in Lawrence County remain “Low,” so there are no changes to the safety requirements that were communicated via the April 22, 2022 all-hands message.
A few reminders
- If you are sick, please stay home and report your illness to the FOMO if you have been working on site.
- Continue to follow standard safety precautions such as frequent hand washing.
- You are encouraged to social distance on site based on personal choices, preferences and situations.
- Be sure to include a Zoom option for meetings to accommodate colleagues who telework or who prefer to social distance.
