Do not install macOS Ventura v13 – not yet certified for Fermilab use

Dear Mac users,

As announced in the message below, macOS Ventura v13 is being tested and is not yet certified for Fermilab use. Please don’t install macOS Ventura v13 until we notify you that it is certified.

This upgrade should be suppressed from appearing on Fermilab-owned Macs until it is certified for use. However, the Ventura upgrade may still appear on some lab-owned Macs.

If you are running macOS Monterey (v12.x) and see an upgrade notification for macOS Ventura, please don’t click the “Upgrade Now” button. To perform other required updates, click the “More Info…” link in the “Other updates are available” section and then click the “Install Now” button.

If the macOS Ventura banner does not appear, you should see any available updates in the main Software Update window. You can click the “Update Now” button to make those updates.

If you are running macOS Big Sur (v11.x), you will see an upgrade banner for macOS Monterey. You might also see an upgrade banner for macOS Ventura. If you see the upgrade banner for macOS Ventura, please don’t click the “Upgrade Now” button. Updates for Big Sur will always appear in the “Other updates are available” section. To install these updates, click the “More info…” link and then click the “Install Now” button.

***ORIGINAL MESSAGE***

Dear Mac users,

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

Apple has recently released the latest version of macOS, Ventura (v13). The Information Technology Division (ITD) is currently evaluating macOS Ventura to ensure that the new macOS is compatible with the various central management services, configuration and security policies and that it complies with the existing macOS baseline.

In the meantime, if you are presented with an Apple update notification that macOS Ventura is available, do not install the new operating system. Please remember, running an unsupported version of macOS violates the macOS baseline and can result in a network block.

WHEN WILL THIS OCCUR?

When ITD completes the evaluation and approval process for macOS Ventura (v13), you will receive an email that it has been approved for use at Fermilab. At that time, an upgrade installer will be provided in the Self Service application, or you may submit a request to have it installed on your computer. There will be no cost for this upgrade.

WHAT IS THE IMPACT TO YOU?

This message is for your information only. There will be no immediate changes to Fermilab services regarding your current operating system.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

If you are presented with an Apple update notification that macOS Ventura (v13) is available, please do not install the new operating system until you receive the email that it has been approved for use at Fermilab.
