In celebration of National Engineers Week, Fermilab welcomes entrepreneur Dr. Kimberly Moore, founder and president of Chicago-based KDM Engineering and the nonprofit organization, Calculated Genius.

Moore will share her education and career journey to entrepreneurship, challenges she faced along the way and the impact her mentors had in fueling her desire to build her own engineering firm. There will be opportunity for Q&A.
KDM Engineering, established in 2009, is a privately owned company certified as a woman-owned, minority-owned, and a disadvantaged business enterprise (WBE/MBE/DBE) and employs more than 100 employees in three states.
Founded in 2016, Calculated Genius awards annual scholarships to women pursuing STEM-related degrees at the collegiate level and hosts a summer STEM scholars, entrepreneurship, and mentorship program to help Chicago Public Schools youth explore and connect to engineering.
Dr. Moore has received numerous awards for her success in building KDM Engineering and her work in the community, including recognition as Engineering News-Record’s “20 Under 40 National” (2018), Crain’s Chicago Business “40 Under 40” (2019), the ATHENA Emerging Leader Award (2019) and the U.S. Small Business Administration Illinois Rising Star Small Business Award (2020). In 2021 she was named the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), Chicago, Woman Business Owner of the Year, and received the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Chicago, Entrepreneur Award.
This event is part of the lab’s Inclusion Matters series sponsored by the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and is presented in collaboration with the Fermilab Society of Women Engineers and the Engineering Advisory Council in recognition of National Engineers Week.
