Symposium honoring Meenakshi Narain

Professor Meenakshi Narain (Brown University)

Last week, about 200 physicists worldwide celebrated in a symposium at Fermilab the life and accomplishments of our friend and colleague Professor Meenakshi Narain from Brown University, who passed away on Jan. 1, 2023. Meena, as many of us knew her for many years, was an inspirational leader and champion of diversity. She was a renowned experimental particle physicist and considered by many as a “force of nature.” Her impact on the physics community has left an indelible mark – on the science that she was passionate about and the people that she cared for and inspired over the years.

The symposium presentations and their recordings are available here.

At the beginning of the event, Professor Sekhar Chivukula from UC San Diego, chair of the Division of Particles and Fields at the American Physical Society, announced the unanimous decision of the DPF Executive Committee to dedicate the DPF Mentoring Award in Meenakshi’s honor. Please see here the details of this recognition of her remarkable career and dedication to mentoring as well as the fundraising drive to endow this award with a monetary stipend and elevate the award to be one at APS society-level.
