Today we are introducing a new standalone Code of Business Ethics and Conduct (Code) (must be on the Fermilab network to view), with the full support of the lab director and the FRA board of directors. The Code provides an overview of the contractual, legal and regulatory requirements governing ethics and conduct for FRA as an organization and for each employee. Importantly, the Code does not include all policies, procedures and requirements that apply to FRA and its employees. Instead,…

Over these past months, Fermilab has seen an unprecedented amount of its workforce telecommuting from home. Adapting to a non-traditional computer workstation has proven to be challenging on our bodies, as well as our efficiency to focus on tasks. As we develop new work routines, some may find themselves introducing poor ergonomic habits while telecommuting from the kitchen table or the couch. The fact is that these spaces are not made for prolonged work shifts. Studies have shown that practicing…

To further protect Fermilab personnel who are working on the Batavia site, FESS is implementing the following changes beginning September 14, 2020: All onsite pick-up and delivery of goods that were ordered through the stock room must be scheduled by contacting the distribution department at ext. 3132. All onsite pick-up and delivery of shipments through the receiving department are handled via the distribution department. Call the distribution department at ext. 3132 to schedule. All outbound shipments to be completed by…

As the laboratory continues to implement the Return to Onsite Work Plan, we want to maximize the distance between people on site to meet social distancing guidelines. The density of occupants inside a building is critical to minimizing the spread of germs or viruses. For many buildings on the Batavia site, the occupancy density is monitored at the division level. If you work in Wilson Hall, a new online tool is available to help manage workspace planning. The tool enables…

The partial phone service outage, which was announced to Fermilab employees and users on July 14 via an Everbridge message, has been repaired. All landlines on site should be operational. If you have any issues with your phone service, please contact the Service Desk at ext. 2345.

Capacity limits in conference rooms and meeting spaces on the Batavia site have been reduced to allow for social distancing. A list of areas and capacities is posted on the COVID-19 resources for employees page in the Site services, badging and timekeeping section. Lab-related meetings and events should continue to be held virtually, if at all possible.

As Fermilab’s new Chief Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer, I would like to introduce myself to the Fermilab community. I would also like to use this opportunity to provide an update on some of the EDI Office’s new responsibilities.

FRA senior leadership met with Lab Resource Group leaders on July 10 to discuss D&I actions and recommendations. The materials discussed at that meeting are available here (Services login required).
