Although Gene retired in 2011, he continued to be active in DZero. Gene was a primary mover in making DZero a reality. With great sadness we report that our colleague Yuri Merekov died on Jan. 2 at the age of 87. He was a long-term member of the DZero JINR (Dubna) group. Yuri began work on the DZero forward muon system in the late 1990s, developing the design and then participating in the construction, installation and commissioning of the mini-drift-tube-based system. During Tevatron Run II, Yuri tirelessly took shifts supporting experiment operations and developed initial ideas for the search of the cascade…
On July 27, DZero submitted two papers to Physical Review D. One was published on Oct. 13, and the other was accepted for publication on Dec. 9. These two papers constitute a tie for the 499th and 500th publications by the DZero collaboration. It is a noteworthy accomplishment, and DZero has joined a select club.
On Tuesday, Oct. 6, Vladimir Sirotenko, loving husband and father of two daughters, died at the age of 70. Vladimir was born on July 14, 1950, in Bryansk, Russia to Antonina and Ivan Sirotenko. On Oct. 3, 1969, he married his school love, Irina Kibalchich. They went on to raise two daughters, Ekaterina and Olga Sirotenko.
