This rare specimen was found at the Fermilab Village. The photographer claims he has never seen another one. Aware of its existence and after spending some 42 years researching the specimen, he has concluded that this is indeed the rare pipe-legged rusty wheeler, or Metalicus goroundyroundus. This seems to be the last one in existence … pity! Based on the coloring, this is a mature female, showing the more natural colors to blend in with the surroundings. Its counterpart, the male pipe-legged rusty wheeler, would be shiny black and most likely with a wide white stripe. It’s an educated guess, but this is most likely the 14-15-inch variety. The photographer is excited to have had the privilege to watch for the appearance of this species over the years and capture this image — this awesome bit of nature — and share it with his followers.
