National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy visits Fermilab to highlight climate change, clean energy in the Midwest

The country’s first National Climate Advisor in charge of climate change and environmental policies, Gina McCarthy, visited Fermilab with Reps. Sean Casten and Lauren Underwood. Their tour was to highlight the importance of climate change and clean energy in the Midwest, with a focus on job creation, public health and economic opportunity.

What if human analysis, combined with machine learning, could advance the study of the universe? The U.S. Department of Energy awarded Fermilab scientist Brian Nord a $2.5 million Early Career Research Award to explore that possibility. Nord has envisioned a new hybrid data-analysis method to undertake the project. It integrates the strengths of artificial intelligence and interpretations of statistics in ways that could potentially advance the studies of cosmology.

Fermilab names Kevin Pitts as chief research officer

Previously vice provost for undergraduate education and professor of physics at the University of Illinois, the new chief research officer will lead research on the international Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment, advancing scientific excellence.
