CPC Seminar: Floating Dark Matter in Celestial Bodies

  • Oct. 17, 2022, 2:30 pm US/Central
  • PPD/ West Wing-WH10NW - Wilson Hall 10th fl North West

This activity or event is open to badged Fermilab personnel.

Speaker: Rebecca Leane, SLAC
Title/Abstract: Floating Dark Matter in Celestial Bodies

Dark matter can be captured in stars and planets after scattering and losing sufficient energy to become gravitationally bound. I will discuss a new framework to describe what happens when dark matter is captured by these objects, and demonstrate the resulting dark matter distributions. I will discuss the implications of these new distributions for existing searches for dark matter in celestial objects, including new sensitivities with quantum devices on Earth.
