From Google Cloud Platform Blog, Nov. 14, 2016: Google Cloud Platform is now a supported provider for HEPCloud, a project launched in June 2015 by Fermilab’s Scientific Computing Division to develop a virtual facility providing a common interface to local clusters, grids, high-performance computers and community and commercial clouds.

As we well know from our experiments studying tiny particles, just because you can’t see something doesn’t mean it isn’t a big deal. Today’s column is focused on our unified communications strategy for the next year. This includes telecommunications, networking and conferencing systems, all of which are behind the scenes, but vital to lab operations.

WHAT ARE WE DOING? The process for ordering computers and peripherals has been made easier. The new Technology Store will be fully live on Oct. 19. WHAT IS THE IMPACT TO YOU? You can order standard computers and standard peripherals (those that are commonly used at the lab) from the Fermilab eMarketplace. Packages containing a complete set, including a standard computer and its associated accessories, have been created to facilitate purchasing. The cutover to multifactor authentication (MFA) will occur on Friday, Sept. 30, at noon. At that time, password-only access will be shut off and access to EBS, Sunflower, CNAS, PeopleSoft, Project/Receiving/Budget Wizard, and FINSRV44 will require multifactor authentication.
