East Asians celebrate Lunar New Year to mark the beginning of a new year on the Lunar calendar. Fermilab’s Asian/Pacific Association hosted a celebration on Jan. 27 in honor of Lunar New Year, the year of the rabbit in the Chinese zodiac. On Sept. 9, Fermilab Asian Pacific Association (FAPA) hosted a Mooncake Social and Stargazing event on the Fermilab Lederman Science Center lawn on a night with a beautiful full moon. Five of the lab’s amateur astronomers (Denton Morris, Marty Murphy, Hogan Nguyen, Cheng-Yang Tan, and Genfa Wu) brought their telescopes and shared their knowledge about astronomy. Thank you to all who participated in the event planning for and attended the Zongzi festival gathering in downtown Naperville. Many thanks to Genfa Wu and Cindy Joe for co-hosting this event – they prepared the zongzi at home ready to serve, brought materials to make more on site, and gave instructions.
