n Aug. 24, Jon Ylinen and Katie Swanson were driving from Site 38 to Wilson Hall when they found a hawk sitting on the side of the road. The hawk wasn’t moving, so Ylinen parked, got out of the truck and walked toward it. The hawk hopped into the brush, so he called Roads and Grounds.
At the Fermilab rail head, a red-tailed hawk suffers a bad wing, rendering it unable to fly. Roads and Grounds took the hawk to the vet for help with its injuries.
Two mating hawks crashed to the ground. One’s talons are embedded in the other’s leg. After a period of time the separated and flew off.
