The Fermilab Office of Strategy Management is pleased to announce the FY 2024 call for Laboratory Directed Research and Development proposals. The LDRD pause on new proposals during FY 2023 allowed time for internal re-evaluation and re-organization of the program. Please stay tuned for more information in May 2023. Purpose of LDRD Fermilab has instituted a LDRD program as outlined by DOE Order O413.2C to help foster the scientific and technical vitality and creativity of the laboratory by funding novel…

To support new initiatives in detector R&D, the Fermilab Detector R&D group allocated funds to test initial ideas before applying for larger supports like laboratory directed research and development. While all R&D ideas will be considered, priorities will be given for ideas aligned with the strategic directions of the group in Pico Second Timing and Noble Element Based detectors, including light and charge collection, as well as novel Blue Sky R&D directions. Proposals using a template are due to the…

Fermilab has benefited greatly from LDRD projects proposed and led by Principal Investigators (PIs) from the laboratory staff. Many of these projects have enabled new science and technology directions for the lab and the broader particle physics community. The completed and currently active LDRD projects have an excellent record of achievement that reflects the creativity and ingenuity of the Fermilab staff. Now after eight years of implementation we will review the program for lessons learned, opportunities to optimize and program…

Fermilab employees are invited to submit Lab-Directed R&D (LDRD) proposals for the coming year (2021). Proposals are due by Friday, Aug. 27.  Information sessions for prospective P.I.s will be held on Thursday, Aug. 5, and Thursday, Aug. 19. Connection information for these sessions can be found on the lab-wide calendar and on the Fermilab LDRD site. We invite employee initiated proposals that are novel, cutting edge, and explore forefront areas of science and technology. The program will enhance the laboratory’s…

Fermilab employees are invited to submit Lab-Directed R&D (LDRD) proposals for the coming year. We invite employee initiated proposals that are novel, cutting edge, and explore forefront areas of science and technology. The program will enhance the laboratory’s ability to carry out the mission of DOE and the laboratory in areas that are outside current programmatic activities but are well-aligned with the strategic goals of the laboratory. Details and the schedule regarding the proposal process can be found at Fermilab…

In advance of the Fermilab Lab Directed R&D (LDRD) pre-proposal submission deadline of Friday, Aug. 28, there will be two identical one-hour information sessions for potential Principal Investigators (P.I.s)  in August.  Each session will include a brief overview of the Fermilab LDRD program followed by Q&A for proposal writers and anybody else interested in the program. The Information sessions will occur through Zoom, and will be on the following two dates in August. Thursday, Aug. 6, 10:00 a.m. CDT Thursday,…
