At Fermilab we mentor postdocs to become full-fledged scientists, supporting both the scientific development and the career advancement of postdocs so they can lead our field into the future. The postdoc mentoring program in the CMS Department has served as a model for similar programs throughout the lab. It relies on three basic elements to guide the postdoc to success: a balanced and ambitious research plan, a personal team of supporting scientists, and regularly scheduled mentoring events.
Reminder Fermilab updated its Communication Policy in July 2019. The Office of Communication has created a short ITNA training called Telling Your Fermilab Stories that summarizes the main points of the policy and provides examples of situations that employees and users might encounter and how to handle them. The new training requirement is now part of every employee’s and user’s required ITNA training.

This year’s diversity and inclusion training series, Inclusion Matters: Building a Sense of Community, starts up this month. It builds on the awareness that last year’s series raised of the impact of social stereotypes and biases in the workforce. The training requirement has been placed on each employee’s ITNA, and the first presentation, by the Chicago Sinfonietta, takes place on Thursday, Feb. 20, in Ramsey Auditorium.
