Dr. William Brinkman, Director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science, and Kerry Bernstein from the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center will speak about cutting-edge technologies for scientific research and the process of innovation this Thursday, June 9 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers, 301 East North Water Street, Chicago. All media are invited to attend.
The presentations kick off the Technology and Instrumentation for Particle Physics conference, where scientists from around the world will discuss innovative instrumentation for particle physics, astrophysics and closely related fields that challenge the limits of current technologies.

Brinkman’s presentation, titled “Innovation: How It Happens”, will start at 9:00 a.m. Prior to his appointment at the Department of Energy, Brinkman spent decades managing scientific research in government, academia and the private sector, including at Bell Laboratories.
Bernstein will speak on “Extremes of Electronics” at 9:45 a.m. At the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, Bernstein is responsible for future product technology definition, performance and application. Bernstein joined IBM in 1978, and specializes in high-performance advanced device and circuit technologies.
