The Fermilab Lecture Series presents a public lecture entitled “The Future of Particle Physics and Fermilab” this Friday (March 27) at 8 p.m. at Fermilab’s Ramsey Auditorium in Batavia, Illinois. Fermilab Director Pier Oddone will talk about the search for the Higgs particle and dark matter as well as Project X, a proposed particle accelerator for Fermilab. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased by calling 630-840-ARTS weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. For more information, see the Fermilab Web site at www.fnal.gov.
Additional information:
The Department of Energy’s Fermilab is the only U.S. national laboratory dedicated to particle physics. Oddone became Director of Fermilab on July 1, 2005. He was previously Deputy Director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He received the 2005 Panofsky Award of the American Physical Society for the invention of the Asymmetric B-Factory. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and was elected as Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences in 2008.
Oddone was born in Arequipa, Peru, and is a U.S. citizen. After receiving his undergraduate degree from MIT, Oddone received his PhD in Physics from Princeton University followed by a post doctoral fellowship at Caltech. He joined the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in 1972.
The DOE Office of Science is the single largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences in the nation and helps ensure U.S. world leadership across a broad range of scientific disciplines. Fermilab is home of the Tevatron, the world’s highest-energy particle collider. The Fermi Research Alliance LLC operates Fermilab under a contract with DOE.
