In accepting the invitation, the distinguished scientist and head of the lab’s Theory Division will join the ranks of notable inductees, such as Nobel laureates Bernardo Alberto Houssay, Luis Federico Leloir, César Milstein and former Fermilab Director Leon Lederman.
Fermilab physicist and Muon g-2 co-spokesperson Chris Polly has won a Falling Walls Award in physical sciences, which honors researchers doing groundbreaking work in the observation and understanding of natural phenomena of the earth, atmosphere and space. Polly is being recognized for his contribution to the Muon g-2 collaboration. Its results earlier this year strengthened evidence of new physics beyond the Standard Model. He is also a finalist for Science Breakthrough of the Year 2021 in physical sciences.
Fermilab has received the Building Envelope Campaign Award for the Industrial Center Building Addition’s energy-efficient design of windows, exterior walls and roofs. Fermilab is one of 14 awardees selected by the DOE.
The Cryogenic Society of America has awarded Benjamin Hansen its Award for Excellence in Cryogenic Operations and Support. Head of Fermilab’s Cryogenics Operations Department, he received the award for his leadership maintaining and operating six helium cryogenic test facilities.
The National Contract Management Association has awarded L.L. “Po” Collins, Fermilab’s director of special projects and former acquisition officer, its Outstanding Fellow Award. She received the award for over 30 years of contributions, achievements and ethics in her field.
The Cryogenic Engineering Conference has awarded Jay Theilacker the 2021 Samuel C. Collins Award. Theilacker is the Cryogenic Sector head in the Applied Physics and Superconducting Technology Division at Fermilab.
Eight students have received the prestigious U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science Graduate Student Research Fellowships to conduct their research at Fermilab.
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers awarded Fermilab’s Jeny Teheran the 2020-2021 Excellence in Leadership Award. She currently serves as the president of the Fermilab chapter of SHPE. Teheran received this award for a second year in a row.
