As Italy launches its Quantum Plan, Il Giornale speaks with Fermilab’s Anna Grassellino pushing the quantum revolution forward in the U.S.

The SQMS Center at Fermilab is developing state-of-the-art quantum computers and sensors for the world’s most advanced particle accelerators. Led by Ann Grassellino, the Center is made-up of 35 partner institutions exploring how novel quantum tools can advance fundamental physics.

Anna Grassellino, senior scientist at Fermilab and the director of the SQMS Center, received the Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic on Feb. 13. Knight is one of the five ranks of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, the highest honor in Italy.

Born and raised in Sicily, she now directs at Fermilab in Chicago, one of the five national centers that the American government has created for the study of quantum technologies and coordinates 500 scientists from all over the world.

The Italian Marisa Bellisario Award was presented to Anna Grassellino, an Italian and American scientist with Fermilab who was recognized in the international category for her scientific work and leadership.

Congratulations to Anna Grassellino who is among the winners of the women’s Oscar, the Marisa Bellisario Award, dedicated to “Women who make the difference”. She will be awarded the international prize for her the role for leading the SQMS Center at Fermilab.

Anna Grassellino speaks with Physics World on why cross-disciplinary collaboration within the national laboratory framework and enabling technologies pioneered at Fermilab at the SQMS Center are leading to the success of practical applications of quantum computing and quantum sensing.
