Will the Higgs boson help scientists trap dark matter?

At Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, postdoctoral researcher Ryan Linehan explores the intersection of quantum information science and particle physics by studying how particles impact superconducting quantum devices. Linehan’s work helps advance both quantum computing and dark matter detection.

Over 100 participants convened at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory for the 2025 CMS Data Analysis School, an intensive program dedicated to preparing the next generation of physicists for work on the CMS experiment at CERN. Hosted by the LHC Physics Center at Fermilab, the week-long event included lectures, hands-on exercises and collaborative analysis projects designed to enhance participants’ expertise in particle physics data analysis.

A trio of Lederman fellows at Fermilab are developing ways to use quantum technology to probe the universe for dark matter and other physics phenomena. While doing so, they are sharing their enthusiasm for their work to inspire the next generation of scientists.
