In the news – DUNE media

In South Dakota, at SURF, scientists have built three huge tunnels about 1,500 meters below the ground. Here, a massive experiment called DUNE is taking place with more than 1,400 scientists from 35 countries.

The BBC covers how the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment will study the change in neutrinos and anti-neutrinos as they travel 800-miles from Fermilab in Illinois to SURF in South Dakota.

SDPB speaks with the science director at SURF about the outfitting massive underground caverns at SURF.
The caverns are currently having utilities, like fire suppression and duct work installed and will host cryostats for DUNE’s far detectors.

Crews with the Sanford Underground Research Facility will undergo the careful process of lowering about 380 steel beams a mile underground soon. Each beam weighs about 12,800 pounds.

Brazil is a leading collaborator in the development of innovative technologies for the DUNE experiment. The State University of Campinas (Unicamp) is developing technologies for the liquid argon purification process and the X-Arapuca light detector.

Discover magazine interviews Dr. Robert Wilson, one of the founding members of DUNE, about the goals of DUNE in studying the behavior of neutrinos.

A new study explores the possibility of studying the sun’s interiors using neutrinos. By studying oscillations at different energy levels, scientists can infer details about the sun’s density structure beyond what traditional models provide.

This Liquid Nitrogen market report covers market characteristics, size and growth, segmentation, regional and country breakdowns, competitive landscape, market shares, trends and strategies for this market.

The DUNE experiment with study neutrinos and antineutrinos. A recent paper suggests DUNE might also be able to detect and confirm the existence of large extra dimensions.

A study published in the Journal of High Energy Physics proposes that the enigmatic behavior of neutrinos could be explained if there exist extra spatial dimensions on the scale of micrometers and the familiar three dimensions of space. The theory of large extra dimensions offers a potential explanation for the origin of the tiny neutrino masses not covered int he Standard Model of Physics.
