From the University of Birmingham, Nov. 21, 2019: The UK has made a new, multimillion-pound investment in the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment, a global science project hosted by Fermilab that brings together the scientific communities of the UK and 31 countries from Asia, Europe and the Americas to build the world’s most advanced neutrino observatory.
With a ceremony held today, Fermilab joined with its international partners to break ground on a new beamline that will help scientists learn more about ghostly particles called neutrinos. The beamline is part of the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility, which will house the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment, an international endeavor to build and operate the world’s most advanced experiment to study neutrinos.
Latin American institutions are instrumental in creating photon detectors for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment.
A collaboration with fewer than 100 members has played an important role in Fermilab’s ongoing partnership with Latin American scientists and institutions.
