From Daily North Shore, Nov. 12, 2019: New Trier Township High School juniors Paul Graham and Ellie Winkler have spent the past year working with a team of 15 other Chicago-area high school students and teachers to propose, design, build and analyze a unique high-energy physics experiment for Fermilab.

From Daily Herald, Nov. 4, 2019: Thirty-eight high school students from throughout the suburbs got to participate in hands-on activities and learn from field experts in physics, computer science, and mechanical and electrical engineering.

From DOE, Oct. 30, 2019: Fermilab scientist Jessica Esquivel is one of 125 women chosen for the American Association for the Advancement of Science IF/THEN Ambassadors program. The program seeks to empower women working in STEM careers and inspire the next generation of pioneers.

In the year-long, highly collaborative program, laboratory staff will work with promising college-level students in minority demographic groups to build the skills they need to be good candidates for STEM internships.

The Big Bang Science Fair brings science communication and outreach to an arts festival in Rhode Island. The event is filled with presentations, workshops and hands-on activities covering a wide range of scientific disciplines. It makes its second appearance later this month.

Esquivel is one of 125 women from across the United States who will serve as high-profile role models for middle school girls through the AAAS IF/THEN® Ambassador Program. The program highlights women in STEM who contribute to the many fields influenced by science, technology, engineering and math.

Ketevan Akhobadze moved to Fermilab from the country of Georgia and found a new home. She now creates exhibits as a tool to introduce the public to the exciting science done at Fermilab.

At the event, Fermilab scientists discussed challenges related to diversity in STEM, promoted opportunities to visit and intern at the lab, and dazzled crowds with science, liquid-nitrogen demonstrations and even an original Black Panther-inspired costume.

Earlier this month, 56 Latina girls from the local area converged at Fermilab to hear from STEM professionals about what it’s like to work in a science-based field. Members of the Fermilab community chatted with the girls, inspiring them to consider a future in STEM.
