Three Fermilab scientists conceived Vamos a Fermilab as a way to increase Hispanic and Latinx representation in STEM careers. Their vision took a step forward recently when the outreach program received funding from the Department of Energy Office of Science’s Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists.

From Community College Daily, July 26, 2021: Moraine Valley Community College in Illinois has six students participating in Department of Science internships this summer, four are at Fermilab. These ten to 16-week internships increase students’ confidence levels, offer professional development, technical writing training and networking with scientists.

The time has come to submit your job opportunities for Summer 2021 undergraduate and graduate interns. Please note that internships will be virtual as on-site laboratory access may still be limited. We encourage you to submit your job opportunities for these incoming interns no later than Feb. 26. Keep in mind these internships and fellowships should be engaging and allow the students to develop an advanced understanding of our work at Fermilab and unlock their potential as future STEM professionals….

It’s incredible to think that last year, Fermilab’s TARGET summer program for high school students turned 40. And this year, our Summer Internships in Science and Technology for undergraduates will see its 50th anniversary. If you’re looking for an extra helping hand on your experiment this summer, consider mentoring or advising TARGET or SIST intern. Postdocs, scientists, engineers, computer professionals are invited to submit research projects and commit to providing teaching, guidance and supervision.
