Fermilab completes its part in upgrading world’s most powerful X-ray laser

Fermilab sent its final contribution for the high-energy upgrade of the superconducting accelerator for SLAC’s X-ray laser, LCLS. The technology they developed will be transferred to industry for semiconductor-chip production and will be used in the Proton Improvement Plan-II, one of Fermilab’s flagship projects.

Jefferson Lab dedicates niobium-tin particle accelerator prototype

    Jefferson Lab successfully tested the first niobium-tin alloy cryomodule, a prototype section of particle accelerator, that is capable of accelerating electrons to energies exceeding 10 million electron-Volts.
    Senior scientist Grigory Eremeev led the project and a Fermilab team leveraged the lab’s Nb3Sn coating facility, SRF cavity processing and testing infrastructure.

    First components for DUNE experiment in Lead

      The first components for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment have arrived in Lead, SD. Starting this spring the LBNF/DUNE project team and officials at the Sanford Underground Research Facility will begin tests to ensure cryostats for the experiment can be safely lowered down the Ross Shaft.
