PIP-II

After joining Fermilab in 2020, Jacopo Bernardini was recently appointed level-3 manager for the 650-MHz cryomodules for the Proton Improvement Plan-II project. PIP-II is building a new, powerful linear accelerator that will create the world’s most intense beam of neutrinos for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment. An amateur triathlete outside of work, Bernardini enjoys working with collaborators around the world as well as watching a design become reality.

During an event at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C., officials honored the successful collaboration between the United States and United Kingdom for building the PIP-II particle accelerator at Fermilab. The powerful new accelerator will be used to send a beam of neutrinos through the Earth for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment.

Throughout this year, Fermilab’s dedicated scientists, engineers, technicians and operations staff came together to drive discoveries, advance American innovation and prepare the lab for a bright future.

After six years contributing to the Proton Improvement Plan-II, Boffo now takes the reins as project director for the major enhancement to the Fermilab accelerator complex.

highlighted nuclear scientist, Elina Mishra from Bhubaneswar on International Women’s Day. Mishra and her team designed and developed several focusing quadrupole magnets and beam steering dipole corrector magnets for the 800 MeV Proton Improvement Plan (PIP-II) program at Fermilab.

A massive 95-metric ton coldbox that completed a cross-ocean journey from France to Batavia, Illinois was moved across the Fermilab campus this week.

Fermilab engineers escorted a 209,000-pound coldbox into its new home at Fermilab as part of a new particle accelerator project aiming to better understand the building blocks of the universe.

The coldbox, a vital piece of Fermilab’s new linear accelerator, is on a two-month voyage from France to its new home in Batavia, Illinois. It will be at the heart of the cryogenic system for the lab’s upgraded accelerator complex.

The PIP-II accelerator upgrade project at Fermilab officially completed its subproject dedicated to the early stages of facilities construction.

A team at Fermilab have built a prototype of a superconducting cryomodule for the Proton Improvement Plan II (PIP-II) project. The cryomodules will comprise the last section of the new linear accelerator, or linac, that will drive Fermilab’s new accelerator complex.
